Hiking

A weekend adventure in the Sandias.

Even parks with short trails often have interesting sights along the way, both natural and artificial. Forests, deserts, grasslands, and even cities are full of things no one will ever experience if they don't take the time to trudge through on foot, whether it's the familiar smell of rotting leaves on the forest floor or the rare event of being unexpectedly lighted upon by irridescent insects.

Worth any number of miles.

You'll never feel more connected with the world around you than when you make yourself a part of it and walk through it. A cliche phrase, "get away from it all", is often associated with recreational activity. I don't like whoever first sait it. I've never felt more like a part of "it all" than when I strap on some comfortable shoes, find a trail, or even a sidewalk, and start walking. And to whoever wishes to try to distinguish the world of their favorite trail from the world of toaster ovens and checkbooks: pick your favorite of however many worlds you have. That's the one everything exists in.
